Blue Plug 20'' x 20''

There are times when I am faced with a very dry creative spell. These have been frequent lately. Wisdom has it that you just keep plugging...and this is just what I have been doing. This piece of canvas, has been needle punched (very satisfying process BTW) with fabric bits, throwster's waste (stuff silk spinners throw out -- or used to) and lots and lots of thread work.
I am not quite at the point where I would rather be vacuuming, but any day now.

Avalon Film

Has anybody tried this stuff?
I picked some up the other day at my friend Jennifer's (Picket fence Fabrics), and I have not been able to stop playing with it. My other work has been set aside (alas!) temporarily until I can get this out of my system. Jennifer could only give me 6 feet as she has had a run on this stuff, no wonder - it is soooo much fun!

It consists of a transparent plastic film that is water soluble (don't even sneeze on it...). The idea is that you 'sandwich' bits and pieces of whatever (fabric, paper, thread etc.) between two layers of this Avalon stuff and then sew through all three layers at will. You then spritz the resulting fabric with water - voila - new fabric, held together by thread.

Above, a school of fish sandwich awaiting the sewing machine.

more new work

48"x 48" Ready for thread work.
This one is the reverse of the first one - oddly enough I like it better. I'm off to make more.

My local guild is sponsoring a collaborative effort involving idioms. we each have to come up with a 12 inch quilt depicting an idiom. I chose 'button your lips'. I worked on it last weekend, and presented it at the meeting Monday. There were a total of 30 'idiom' quilts at the meeting. What a sight! Posted by Picasa
